Mauritius - anyone been?
There's a cracking deal on Travel Zoo. 9 nights in a 5 star for a grand. I've always wanted to go there.

Is it as good as it looks?

Seen pictures of it.

I'd rather just go down the pub.

Well you can't, so Mauritius it is.

Isn't there somewhere closer?...Mauritius looks like one of those places with tons of mini islands where they set sail across with your drinks (with fancy Dan accompaniments)

Or am I confusing it with Greece?

If it's Saint Geran snap their hands off

On my list, everything the Seychelles is meant to be but isn't, told by someone who knows

But you will need a few bob for the spends

A lovely, lovely place.

I don't like people fussing me (like over attentive waiters for example) so it took me a while to get used to being picked up at the airport in a fancy car, going out to Flat Island on a speedboat and walked around by a proper biologist, the wine waiting in ice at your table and all that stuff.

I ended up going to a few places on the bus to descend back into the skint yob that I am. It's a really beautiful place so go. I am actually jealous!

Not been there but worked with a couple over here, the nicest people you could hope to meet.

Here's the link if anyone fancies. It's £399 for 9 nights at the hotel but you need to sort out your own flights - which you can get for £600.

Been to Mauritius long time ago back in the 70s, beautiful place, actually spent Christmas day on the beach.

Been to the Seychelles as well, both places were really good

I want to go to St Helena, now they have an airport, I'm guessing it's a bit expensive as there are no direct flights from the UK

I went a few years ago, beautiful place - was fucking windy at times when we went (September).

Stayed in a hotel called The Long Beach - which was was good, very new and modern with decent rooms etc, but had a terrible all-inclusive - was a small set menu in all of the restaurants, anything outside of that you had to pay for. So many people complained they eventually changed it.

For whoever asked earlier, it’s different to the Maldives in that it’s not loads of little islands. There are a few, but the main island is pretty big.

Anyway, would I go back? Definitely.

Mind you, I’m gagging to travel anywhere at the moment

If you can upgrade to The Maldives do it, the island i went to Meedhuparru, one of the best holidays i've had. Absolutely stunning.

Missus has half Mauritian roots, she has been loads but I'm going for the first time in August. Somewhat near Port Louis

Went for a week as our honeymoon. Beautiful place and locals are friendly. Stayed at the Westin Turtle Bay which was very nice.

Hire a car for a couple of days and drive yourself around, brilliant.

Head to Casela Wildlife Park and walk with the lions, awesome.

Don't bother with the seven coloured earths, waste of time.

We'd go back, but would like to do the Maldives next.

On my bucket list. Interesting to see mention of an upgrade to Maldives. I want to do that too but have often heard nothing to do there whereas more things on Mauritius.

Hopefully I will get the chance to do both.

No, but went Seychelles in 70s, 14hr flight dc10, small runway stopped to refuel Addis Ababa loads came on with Tommy cooper hats disinfecting the plane, next stop was Mauritius.. Beau Vallon beach hotel mahe, John le meseurier also stayed there, pissed every night.

They conducted miss Seychelles in the hotel during a tropical storm. Played golf and coconuts were dropping from the palms, giant crabs in the rough. Bird eating spiders with webs in the telegraph wires. Opened hotel balcony door and a hummingbird flies in hovering, shit myself wings moving so fast up close noisy loud buzzing thought it was a giant hornet.

Beaches incredible, walk out several hundred feet and water warm, calm still only up to knees sand under foot.

I expect Mauritius fairly similar
